HOPE 08

The trustees of Merseyfest are delighted to support the vision of Hope 2008. Hope 2008 is a national initiative by the Message Trust, Soul Survivor and Youth for Christ. The vision is for “Hope in our villages, towns and cities”

There are several High Points to the year. At the beginning of the year in January is a time for “Fresh Hope” and this is a great opportunity to invite friends, neighbours and colleagues to lifestyle courses run by your church. These courses could be anything from parenting classes to debt counselling.

Hope 08
In March it is time for “The Big Hope” with activity based around the practical exploration of Lent and the Easter Story. The idea being that the church can make the truth about the Easter story accessible to all.

During May it is time for “Hope Where You Live” – in the case of Merseyfest this has been shifted to between 4th and 14th June to coincide with our contribution to the Festival of Hope! This will be an opportunity for us to contribute to Hope ‘08’s vision for “1,000,000 hours of kindness” where we can reach out to our communities in loving, spontaneous and imaginative ways. We will be looking for dozens of community projects across the length and breadth of our region.

Through the summer Hope ’08 will encourage as many as possible to undertake a week or weekend of focused mission activity, through flagship events supported by a number of partnering organisations across the UK.

In September there is “Hope Explored” with churches running courses such as Alpha or Emmaus where people can explore the Christian faith in an accessible and friendly way.

In December the focus will be on Advent and Christmas under the banner of “The Gift of Hope”.

Hope ’08 is accessible to all churches and has the support of the Evangelical Alliance and the leaders of the mainstream churches. Churches don’t have to commit to the entire programme and can get involved with those parts of the programme that suit them. There is an encouragement to partner with others but the programme is flexible. Can you imagine the difference it would make if all those churches across the region that declare the Lordship of Jesus Christ did get involved and were prepared to deliver what they could of this programme to their community?
