The Brathay Windermere Marathon 20th May 2007
Six runners participated in the Brathay Windermere Marathon on behalf of Merseyfest on Sunday 20th May and five managed to complete the demanding course.
Steve Bodman from Toxteth Tabernacle was completely exhausted at the 18 mile point and had to be helped to the finish line. First home was Tanel Lokuta in a very creditable 3 hours 29 minutes, then came Jack Sykes in 4 hours 5 minutes and Mike Kerry in 4 hours 16 minutes, Sam Ireton was around the four and a half hour mark with Richard Bennett doing very well despite a chest infection he completed the course in 4 hours 45 minutes. For most of the runners this was their first marathon.
All runners found the latter part of the race difficult with Mike Kerry complaining that somebody had changed the pavements from tarmac to treacle at around 18 miles. Sam Ireton was accompanied by some fantastic support from Grace Family Church and Tanel Lokuta found some toenails in his socks at the end of the race
